In the year 1999 predictions for the Leonids were very optimistic, a real meteor shower was expected for November 17th. Unfortunately the general weather prospects for that time of the year are not ideal, so we and several other amateur astronomers tried to escape to a spot with good weather prospects.

So we met Klaus Peter Schröder, he and Rod Greening have stored telescope some stuff there. We had a real good show, the shower peaked with ZHR of more than 1000.

During this meeting the idea was born to arrange a telescope meeting in the hotel “Parador”, using the equipment and enjoying the views of the sky at 28°N. After some planing the 1.TTC, Tenerife Telescope Convention, took place and 16 guys met in the “Parador” in April 2002. Weather was not ideal, but we had a good time.

There were four TTC in total in the meantime, we had lectures and workshops, but number of participants was steadily decreasing, so i guess there will be no more big TTC in the future.

And this are the three guys behind the telescopes:

Klaus Peter Schröder, astronomer nearly since the big bang, professionel astronomer, currently working at the university of Guanajato, Mexiko.

Rod Greening, british amateur astronomer, engaged telescope builder and eagle-eyed visual observer
